Initially, when no IR beam datashheet falling on sensor photo-transistor T1, the DC voltage appearing at the input of the window comparator is nearly zero. To avoid circuit malfunction, cover the phototransistor T1 with a suitable contraption so that the phototransistor is not exposed to unwanted light sources. The window output remains low. A power supply would be much more convenient, no battery to change.

If not, I don’t mind, a little bit of trial-and error can be done. This was exactly why I asked a circuit diagram.

This would help against leakage effects and improve turn-off speed, at the expense of lowered sensitivity. Could you please post a diagram and fuller details of your application?

I believe soldering shouldn’t be much of a safety concern as I have used them before and have gone for a robotics class wherein we had to solder the parts provided onto the provided PCBs in a way, they didn’t explain how they work, but just doing the soldering. The circuit operates off a 9V battery, which can be connected to the circuit through switch S2.


By l14c1 way, could you tell why the resistor is used in the circuit? This DC voltage is fed to the junction of the inverting input of N1 and the non-inverting input of N2.
