To be honest, for most of this book I thought that, as a character, Thomas worked better in the first novel, when there was a sense of–well, mystery is perhaps not the right word–to his ac The story covers much the same narrative terrain as The Lost Duke of Wyndhamonly this time around the focus is on two of that novel’s supporting characters: I felt like she should have known.
I really enjoyed this book. The style of her last couple of novels, however, has changed in a way that is rather disappointing. Which are not bad things! Well, first of all I am gonna say that this was definitely an improvement from book 1.

prdsume The gimmick of these two books – telling the same story from two different perspectives – just didn’t work for me. But as she watches him from afar, she has a sneaking suspicion that he never thinks about her at all. I don’t generally read romance.
View all 12 comments. Had this not been the case, the novel would have received a significantly higher grade. Thomas is the heir to the Wyndham dukedom. I don’t know how she does it but Julia Quinn is brilliant at romance. Darcy’s Diary, and Pamela Aidan’s Gentleman series to name a few so I know the concept can work, it just wasn’t executed well here.

The hero was interesting with the kind of values I think a hero of a novel should have. Having read a quinh of lukewarm reviews of this book, I was pleasantly surprised when it turned out to be much better than I had been given to expect. Let me begin with the title Her characterization is on point.
The hero of this book is Thomas Cavendish, Duke of Wyndham, a very serious young man who has been qunin to manage a dukedom and does so extremely diligently. But it’s a loose thread: Now, I realize that the storylines are taking place at the same time, and I acknowledge the fact that certain scenes from TLDoW needed to be repeated here from a different point of view.
Julia Quinn has a sparky, lively writing style which is good to read if often historically inaccurate.

Their connection turns out to be sweeter and deeper than I thought. Sadly, this fell flat no matter what presime was thrown at me in the end.
